The most important feed governance fact for Shopify-connected Performance Max is easy to miss: Shopify data overwrites Merchant Center data, and Google's documentation says changes should be made in Shopify only. That does not make Standard Shopping automatically more efficient. It makes performance easier to inspect when margin protection or brand control matters more than reach.
PMax suits a mature catalog with reliable conversion tracking and enough tolerance for Google to distribute spend across eligible surfaces.
